The Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a full-time assistantship in American Literature in the English Department.
Expected start date in position : 1 September 2018
Contract length : One-year contract, followed by two-year contract, renewable once only, for a total of five years maximum
Activity rate : 100%
Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny
- 50% min. doctoral research (PhD thesis)
- 50% max. teaching and administration
The appointee will be expected to
- Conduct research (50% time) and complete a PhD thesis in the field of American Literature
- Teach a first-year or BA-level course (2h/semester) in American Literature
- Participate in administrative tasks and contribute to the life of the English Department
All applicants must have an MA (or equivalent degree) in modern English or American literature.
The candidate should have graduated in Modern American Literature, preferably specialising in African American, Native American or Ethnic American literature.
Applicants with an interest in feminism or gender studies, an interest in war writing, or environmental issues will also be considered.
Proficiency in French is required. Preference will be given to candidates with an aptitude for teaching and an ability to work independently.
