New Technology Division is interested in exploring and designing new enabling materials for the development focused toward applications for futuristic technologies in integrated circuit (IC) and display industries. Technological break-through in new applications requires tailor-made synthesis of organic small and macro- molecules. New Technology group is embarking an exploratory inter-divisional project that involves EMD Performance Materials’s display division and advanced material division members on developing new liquid crystal block copolymers and its use for applications in display systems.
This task requires a specialized skill-set for synthesis of tailor made small, macromolecules and develop liquid crystal containing block copolymer via living anionic polymerization under high vacuum or high pressure nitrogen atmosphere.
This requires highly motivated and highly skilled candidate to take-up challenging complex problem faced by the industry and provide solution via chemical design and material development. We are looking for a potential candidate who is highly skilled in methods and operations of chemical transformations, reactions, polymerization techniques and processes. Essential educational qualification, expected scientific knowledge, adequate skill-set and experience for a potential candidate are given below.
The primary focus of this job is to synthesize new organic liquid crystal mesogens and to form well-defined diblock copolymer via anionic polymerization. Candidate who have experience in studying phase morphology of such diblock copolymers will be highly preferred.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be knowledgeable in the field of living anionic and controlled polymerization and highly skilled in operating reactions using pyrophoric reagents under inert atmosphere or high vacuum. The primary focus of this job is to synthesize new organic liquid crystal mesogens and to form well-defined diblock copolymer via anionic polymerization. Candidates who have experience in studying phase morphology of diblock copolymers will be highly preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
PhD degree in the field of organic/polymer chemistry, or chemical engineering from an accredited college or university; or the equivalent combination of education and directly related industrial experiences. Candidate with 2 years of post-doctoral experience in polymer synthesis or prior 2 years of work experience in anionic or controlled polymerization field is required for this job.
- Understand lithography and directed self-assembly of block copolymers and address issues via material design
- Conduct research as directed by the Manager
- Design new small and macromolecules that are specifically functionalized to meet target performances suitable for customer requests
- Develop new organic/inorganic materials, tailor made α,ω telechelic small and macromolecules and new di-, tri-block copolymers via living anionic polymerization
- Prepares/arranges sample shipment to customers based on the lab orders.
- Supervises assigned technicians if any.
- Communicate and present the test results with the team and department manager in biweekly meetings and monthly reports using power-point file with scientific argument and conclusion.
- Facilitates scale-up activities with production team at other sites in Germany and Japan
- Follows safety regulations of EMD in the chemical labs, clean rooms, office and other areas of work.
At times supervise technicians including providing training to freshmen as and if assigned by department manage
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public in English. Knowledge of German for communications would be added advantage.
