Nature Reviews Nephrology has a vacancy for a full-time, permanent Associate or Senior Editor.
Main duties of role: editing, commissioning, peer-review, writing
The Associate/Senior Editor’s role is busy and varied. This exciting position will work closely with the small, in-house journal team, and liaise directly with the internationally renowned Advisory Board, contributors and scientific and clinical communities. Key tasks include identifying timely, emerging topics to commission, editing for all editorial sections, organizing peer-review, making decisions on submitted manuscripts, and writing for the journal.
To meet these challenging tasks, the ideal candidate will have a broad scientific or medical knowledge and training. Preference will be given to candidates with the following key attributes: a relevant biological science or biomedical degree to PhD level; a demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language; experience that indicates a proactive approach and excellent organizational skills. Training will be provided, but prior editorial experience will be advantageous.
A key aspect of the job is interaction with the scientific community, including attending international conferences. The successful candidate must, therefore, be dynamic and outgoing, be prepared to travel and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Nature Reviews Nephrology is an international monthly journal that covers the mechanisms and pathogenesis of disorders that affect the kidneys as well as the treatment and management of these disorders. Systemic conditions that affect the kidneys (such as diabetes and autoimmune diseases) and systemic problems that occur as a result of kidney problems (such as metabolic bone disease and hypertension) are also covered. Given the breadth of the journal’s remit, this role would suit a candidate with a strong research background in one or more of the following areas: immunology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, (renal) physiology renal cancer, developmental biology, epidemiology, endocrinology or metabolism, cardiovascular research or nephrology.
