Job Title: Associate or Senior Editor (Robotics)
Department: Nature Machine Intelligence
Location: London, Berlin, New York, San Francisco or Shanghai
Nature Machine Intelligence is a new Nature Research journal, launching in 2019 that will publish both fundamental and applied research in a wide range of areas underpinning artificial intelligence and robotics. The journal will incorporate elements of computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, cognitive science and psychology. The journal will also provide news and comment articles on exciting developments on this fast-moving topic and discuss the impact of the research developments on science, society and industry.
We would like to invite applications specifically from those with a background in robotics, though candidates from any other of the above and related fields are also welcome to apply. Applicants should have completed a PhD, have a strong research record, feel driven to continually learn about new fields and trends and have a keen interest in exploring the wide implications of research on other areas, industry and society. We would be interested in hearing from candidates with strong industry experience as well as those who can demonstrate strong science writing skills. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for Senior Editor positions.
The successful candidates will report to the Chief Editor and will play an important role in shaping this exciting new journal. They will participate in all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing News and Views, Comment and Reviews, as well as writing for the journal.
These are demanding and intellectually stimulating positions. The successful candidates must be dynamic and outgoing, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the research community through laboratory visits and international conferences, and therefore a willingness to travel is essential.
The positions are offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will ideally be located in our London office, although the possibility of working in Berlin, New York, San Francisco or Shanghai will also be considered.
Applications should include the following:
1. A cover letter telling us who you are and why you want to become a full-time Nature journal editor. Please also mention your salary expectations and your preferred location.
2. A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history, list of published research papers, and any other achievements that you feel demonstrate your suitability for the position.
3. A concise discussion of some recent developments in two or more fields underpinning artificial intelligence which you have found particularly exciting (explaining why).
We will consider applications on a rolling basis.
